certificate recipientMPUA training is designed to meet the unique needs of members. We provide regular and periodic training opportunities throughout the year and on-going training options which are available at any time for local use. 

Additional training opportunities are provided throughout the year when new challenges or needs are identified. The Member Services Committee advises staff on training topics and needs. Contact MPUA at 573-445-3279 or email with any training questions.

Regular Training Opportunities

  • Drinking Water & Wastewater Online Training
    • Online re-certification courses approved by DNR for Operator Certification Renewal
    • Employees may earn up to 24 hours toward Drinking Water Certification, 24 hours for Water Distribution Certification, and 25.5 hours for Wastewater Certification; all are voucher eligible.
    • Each course cost $20 for members and $25 for non-members.

  • MPUA Annual Conference
  • Spring Tech Days
    • Held each spring, this technical training has an electric or water/wastewater track and is offered at two different locations for member convenience.

    • Designed for field and technical staff
  • RP3 Application Training
    • Training is provided each spring/summer for members interested in applying for the Reliable Public Power Provider (RP3) designation from the American Public Power Association (APPA) 
  • Supervisory Leadership Development Certification
    • This 20 credit hour certification is a supervisor training series for current and future leaders in all types of utility operations. The in-person and online coursework starts with evaluating one's own strengths/motivations/interests and then uses this information to show how to build the skills, culture, and systems that support a high performing utility. 


  • Customer Service Training
    • Serving emotional, difficult-to-please customers
  • Utility Policy Development Certification for Public Officials
    • Training program for city administrators, mayors, city council members, boards of alderman, or finance directors to equip them to make decisions regarding local utility management

On-Demand Training Opportunities

  • Safety Training DVD Library
    • Over 100 water, wastewater, and electric safety training DVDs on a wide range of topics are available to members for local training

  • Safety Meeting Program 
    • On-site monthly safety program provided in cooperation with the Illinois Municipal Utilities Association
    • Helps members maintain a safe working environment for employees, reduce accidents, and limit exposure to liability claims
