The American Public Power Association has recognized 12 MPUA-member municipal utilities with a “Certificate of Excellence” for reliable performance, as shown by comparing their outage records against nationwide data gathered by the Energy Information Administration.

The 12 utilities honored included those for the Missouri cities of Chillicothe, Columbia, Hannibal, Harrisonville, Higginsville, Independence, Jackson, Macon, Marshall, Rolla and Trenton. Also earning the reliability recognition was Clarksville Light & Water Co., an MPUA member in Clarksville, AR.

The electric utilities were among 143 public power utilities nationwide that earned the 2019 recognition from APPA.

The utilities that were recognized by APPA keep track of their reliability data using APPA’s web-based subscription service, called eReliability Tracker, that lets utilities collect, categorize and summarize outage information. Subscribing utilities use the service to store their outage and restoration data and run reports throughout the year. At the end of the year, the Association benchmarks their data against national statistics from EIA, which is a branch of the Department of Energy. Cities in the Missouri Public Power Pool (MoPEP) are encouraged to subscribe to the eReliability Tracker to track outage information. The service is currently used by 18 MoPEP members.

16 members of MPUA are also currently recognized with an APPA’s designation from the Reliable Public Power Program (RP3), for their reliability in addition to safety, workforce development and system improvement

More information on the eReliability Tracker program is available on MPUA’s Technical Services webpage and at APPA’s webpage on Reliability Tracking.
