Plum Point Energy Station wins NRG’s 2018 Plant of the Year award

The Plum Point Energy Station has been recognized as NRG Energy’s 2018 Plant of the Year. Plum Point was selected for the company’s highest honor for its high marks in the areas of safety, environmental, and operations performance. Noted by NRG for significant operational improvements from 2017 to 2018, the station’s award was announced on Feb. the company’s plant managers meeting in Houston. Plum Point is one of 56 plant sites in NRG’s generation fleet.


The Missouri Joint Municipal Electric Utility Commission (MJMEUC) owns a 22 percent stake in the Plum Point facility, a 680-megawatt (MW) coal-fired generating plant located just south of Osceola, AR.  MJMEUC also has a long-term power purchase agreement for an additional 50 MW of the facility’s power generation. The Commission provides 20 MW of Plum Point’s power to the 35 electric utilities in the Missouri Public Energy Pool (MoPEP), as well as different allocations to other MPUA member utilities at North Little Rock, AR (60 MW); Poplar Bluff, MO (20 MW); Osceola, AR (20 MW); Carthage, MO (12 MW); Malden, MO (4 MW); and Piggott, AR (6 MW).
