7 Ways to Keep Up with MPUA in 2017

MPUA has several valuable training opportunities and important and informational meetings planned for 2017. We know you’re busy working to provide reliable and quality service in your communities, so we’ve brought together seven great ways for you to keep up with MPUA in 2017, so you can mark your calendars now. A full list of MPUA’s upcoming events is also updated regularly on our website.

 

1. Spring Tech Training

Don’t miss MPUA’s annual one-day training opportunity for front line electric and water/wastewater utility staff. You can catch the training on March 15 in Rolla or March 16 in Fulton. Spots are limited, so get your signups in today! View agenda and registration details on the MPUA website.

  • Training Dates: Rolla 3/15, 9:00 am - 3:00 pm; Fulton 3/16, 9:00 am - 3:00 pm

 

2. Quarterly Board Meetings

MPUA members drive the direction of the organizations through the Board of Directors. The quarterly meetings for the Gas Commission, Missouri Association of Municipal Utilities, and Electric Commission include detailed written and verbal staff updates on every area of MPUA from the power projects and regulatory actions to member services and financial reports. In addition to contributing to business discussions and voting on action items, participating in the quarterly meetings gives you an opportunity to confer with colleagues across the state, learn about training and service opportunities, and provide input on potential member service needs.   • Meeting Dates: 3/9, 6/8, 9/29, 12/7 – September meeting at Tan-Tar-A, all others in Columbia

 

3. Supervisory Leadership Training

Developing your utility staff and their supervisory skills is necessary to retain quality employees and plan strategically for promotion and succession. MPUA’s Supervisory Leadership Certification provides of 24 hours of coursework on leadership, problem-solving, and dealing with internal office conflict. Start thinking now about who among your staff – current supervisors, lineworkers, operators, administrative staff, and employees soon-to-be-promoted to supervisory roles – could benefit from this training.

  • Training Date: Coming Spring 2017

 

4. RTO Committees

MPUA staff and consultants take part in MISO and SPP meetings to monitor and provide comments on the development of tariffs and RTO policies. Our staff/consultants have voting rights on the RTO boards and sit on many important working groups and committees. During the RTO Committee calls, MPUA members are updated on important developments that may affect their operations or costs. Monthly newsletters can also keep you up to date on any changes or developments.

  • MISO Calls: 2/16, 4/20, 5/18, 7/20, 8/17, 10/19, 11/16 – 9:00 am
  • SPP Calls: 2/16, 4/20, 5/18, 7/20, 8/17, 10/19, 11/16 – 3:00 pm
  • Joint Meetings: Following each quarterly Board meeting

 

5. Legislative Committee

With over 800 bills sponsored already in the 2017 legislative session, it can be hard to filter through and determine what legislation your city/utility needs to follow or respond to. The MAMU Legislative Committee provides you with weekly bill summaries, a brief update on pertinent legislative action from the previous week, and calls to action when bills affecting your utility face committee or floor consideration. The Legislative Committee also hosts monthly meetings during the session for more detailed updates and strategy discussions.

  • Meeting Dates: 2/14 at 1:30 pm; 3/14, 4/11, and 5/9 at 10:00 am – Jefferson City or by conference call

 

6. Annual Conference

MPUA’s Annual Conference may still be seven months away, but it’s never too early to save the date on your calendar (September 27-29) and think about who from your city/utility could benefit from attending. Planning is already underway as we work to bring valuable and informative speakers and topics. If you have suggestions or ideas for 2017 conference, please consider joining the Member Services Committee (next meeting 10am in Columbia on 3/8) to share your input!

  • Dates: September 27-29 at Tan-Tar-A

 

7. Subscribe to MPUA Publications

MPUA’s array of publications are a great way to stay updated on MPUA services, training opportunities, and news. Any employees of MPUA members are able to sign up to receive publications via email. We currently publish a quarterly Alliance Advantage magazine, periodical Alliance Advisor e-newsletters, weekly (Jan-May) Alliance Inside legislative updates, and monthly MISO and SPP newsletters.
